Sutton's Local Offer 2014

The Local Offer

Following the January 2018 OFSTED CQC Inspection:

The Local Offer is being updated and redesigned in line with the Written Statement of Action.  Our first meeting to ask parent/carers to contribute to this work was held on 14th September, 2018 and you can download the notes here

We will be holding further Focus Groups to design the web pages so do let us know if you would like to be involved

There is a legal requirement for each Local Authority to produce a Local Offer for their area. The Local Offer is a “one stop shop” of services and support that is available to children and young people from the age of 0 to 25 years with special educational needs or a disability and their parents and carers.

Following consultation with children and young people and their parents in the London Borough of Sutton, a Local Offer will be developed that gives information about the support, advice, services and provision that is available both in borough and in neighbouring boroughs if Sutton residents use those services.

There will be information available about support that can be accessed in

  • Early years provision
  • Schools, including Academies and Special schools
  • Post 16 provision
  • Training
  • Social Care, including Short Breaks
  • Health
  • Transition to Adulthood, including employment and independent living
  • Transport
  • Parent Partnership Services
  • Parent Carer Forum
  • Leisure activities

The purpose of the Local Offer is to enable parents and young people to see what services are available, who the service provides for, how you can access the services, where it is located, what can reasonably be expected from those services, who makes the decisions and how to complain if things go wrong.

There will be information on Universal services, which can be accessed by any child, with or without a disability; targeted services, which are provided specifically to support children and young people with disabilities and their families and specialist services which provide support at the highest level of need.

There will also be information on how you can ask for an assessment for an Education and Health Care Plan (EHC plan). This is a legal document that will be replacing statements and Learning Difficulty Assessments from September 2014. These can last until the young person is 25 if necessary and the process and timescales will be explained. It will also give details on information of what support can be expected from schools and colleges to provide before an EHC plan is necessary.

The Local Offer will be a living document that will be reviewed and kept up to date. Your feedback is important and there will be a feedback facility. It should be accessible and informative and we will be consulting with service users over the coming months to ensure it meets their needs.

We welcome your comments and suggestions and these will be taken into account when developing the Local Offer for LB Sutton residents. If you have any comments, suggestions or would be available to take part in a focus group, please contact us at suttonparentsforum@outlook.com
